Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Umha likes to observe and take mental notes of various human behaviors, though half of those notes are about how much better she is than they are. Because she spends so much time sitting proudly without moving, the humans have come to believe that she is not a dragon, but a statue that was built to guard the long, lonely road. If they ever see Umha do anything that dragons do but statues do not, she fears that she'll scare them away, or worse, scare them into trying to kill her. It is her understanding that humans are stupid and can easily assume she's out to get them. Those apes are cute but terrifying in groups, so Umha is careful to act like a statue when any are present so she won't arouse suspicions.
