Considered heralds of ill fortune, Omen Wyrms are usually found in areas previously ravaged by disaster or strife, blending in amongst the foliage. Due to the unique appearance and texture of their bodies, they often pass as dead trees as they wait for unsuspecting prey. Their haunting cry—like that of a hollow-sounding horn—is a sure signal to run: it is always followed by the dragons’ furious wrath, which manifests in the form of fiery cascades. Escape from an Omen Wyrm is possible, however; it is said they will not dare follow their quarry across running water, no matter the cause of their vexation.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Tercomen is the leader of Tercomen's band, a group with only one member, herself. She used to be a member of a larger group (led by a guy whose name she has trouble remembering), but she was ousted because even the normally aloof leader couldn't tolerate her nosiness. She tried to find out what everyone was doing at all times, sometimes distracting others from a task they were concentrating on, or worse, allow their quarry to escape. If shushed too often, she would hurl fire every which way while delivering a tirade about how unreasonable everyone was being. Also, when traveling, she liked to crawl alongside one of the other omen wyrms so closely that she was nearly atop them, and more than once, they've become entangled. Finally, the leader informed Tercomen that their group was getting too big, and it was up to her to leave and form a new one.
