Harvest Dragons are a large, flightless breed most often found in heavily forested mountains. Normally shy, these omnivorous dragons keep to themselves in remote regions, but in the fall they descend from their high territory to search for food—and lots of it. During the autumn months, harvest dragons will eat whatever they can find, from large and small animals to nuts and fruit. In the winter they retreat into large caves and hibernate until spring, living off the fat they have built up.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Ikliss Harroc was always the party girl, the one who never missed a chance to be front and center at a crowded event. She was never considered one who would be the "bad girl", but nevertheless was the life of a party. Her rather unique social status earned her a sort of fearful respect from those around her, but it wasn't what she wanted. She tried many new things to find her true place, but nothing seemed to fill her need, so one morning she packed up her few belongings and left for the mountains, ignoring pleas from her neighbors and friends for her to stay. While in the mountains, Ikliss Harroc met Clax Vi Krehl, the disgraced young harvest who had tried to save the life of a wounded vampire dragon. Ikliss Harroc fell in love with him, and soon the two became life-mates. Ikliss Harroc even got her new mate to return home with her, where they were greeted warmly without a trace of the hostility that had driven them both out.
