Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Voydd's egg was found, abandoned, by the wild Specklethroat, Haapie. Fascinated by the green glowing thing she'd found and not really comprehending that it was the egg of a much larger dragon, Haapie attempted to take the egg to her hollow-tree lair. On patrol around the Breedery's borders, Sardonyxiar and Obseddiun came across the astonishing sight of the little Specklethroat doing her best to roll the egg up the trunk of her tree to the entrance hole since she was too small and weak to fly safely with it. Unsure whether to be amused or horrified, the two adult blacks took the egg away from Haapie (who is still a bit resentful about the whole business) and raised it as their own offspring. Now grown, Voydd is a quiet, withdrawn fellow, and not very martial as blacks go. Always hungry yet never gaining weight for all his 'snacking', he spends most of his time in the Breedery's library, studying magic and lore. He is one of Sokhta's few genuine admirers.
