Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. You almost can’t draw your attention away from it.

And look! It has grown fins! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Burf Pink follows Grim Fee the fire gem around. He's not her son but is now seen as such, since he likes her so much and relies on her for protection, food, and companionship. He's never articulated why he took a shine to this particular dragon, but since his parents couldn't be found, everyone just accepted that Grim Fee has a child now. When Burf Pink was first found and scooped up by Grim Fee, he quickly endeared himself to her, and she's since created at least three hundred food combinations for him in an attempt to find out what he likes to eat, from roast mouse to haddock fillet-on-a-bun. Burf Pink is now old enough to venture away from the community center for hours by himself, but he always returns, looking for Grim Fee. In fact, Grim Fee is one of the few denizens that Burf Pink doesn't loathe. If made to stay with someone other than her (or a couple of other exceptions), he desires to be left alone lest he get into shouting arguments and break something.
