Red Dragons are similar to typical story book dragons. They shoot flames, can fly, etc. However, they aren’t evil creatures as depicted in myths and won’t go around raiding castles, killing knights, or kidnapping princesses. They live in a variety of habitats, from forests to coastlines to abandoned castles, usually in warm climates, and eat whatever living creatures they can find.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

The Sand Gem is a famous magical artifact located in the Niet Plains, a stretch of flat desert in the northwest. This gem is huge, estimated to be almost thirteen thousand carats in size and imbued with a brilliantly sepia hue, making it worth untold amounts of money. The magic imbued within the Sand Gem is so far unknown, but said to be a mixture of earth and fire magic, due to the intense heat that surrounds it and the way it constantly reshape the landscape.

However, so far the Sand Gem has never been taken or touched by human hands, because of this Red Dragon, who guards it. No one knows why he does, but many entertain the idea the dragon is being mind-controlled by the gem, who seems to have a sentient need to protect itself and sustain its existence.
