Sunstone Dragons are named after the orb on their tails, which resembles the gem of the same name. Their social structure resembles a lion pride, with one dominant male and several females banded together with their young. They prefer arid climates where they can blend in and dig for minerals and gemstones that they not only collect, but eat. The more gems they consume, the larger their tail stone grows. They are an aggressive breed; it is not uncommon to see two males battling for mates and territory.
Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.
User Description
Ul'Kiyah is the leader of a pride of Sunstone Dragons roaming the Edmar Desert. They have no set territory, but typically tend to 'claim', or roam around areas rich in minerals and rocks for their consumption.
Mining speculators often tend to track the movements of Ul'Kiyah's pride, since the dragons frequently seek out highly sought after 'gem trees', massive hunks of semi-precious gemstones formed through unknown but most likely magical means. These structures are massive, the smallest weighing in just shy of two tons and standing over thirty feet, and have only ever been sighted in the Edmar Desert.
Because of this intense economic interest in the minerals sought out by Ul'Kiyah's pride, hunters and poachers have been hired by speculators to kill off the pride's competition, so that they are safe to continuously seek new gem trees. The poaching, as of the last few decades, has become so intense that many wonder if Ul'Kiyah and his pride are the only dragons left in the desert.
