Swallowtail Dragons are graceful and quick flyers, much like their namesake bird. They are capable of precise aerial acrobatics, and can reach very high altitudes. Because of this, humans observing these dragons are often astonished at how large they are when confronted up close. A Swallowtail’s diet consists of insects and small mammals plentiful in temperate forests. These dragons are also made remarkable by their paper-thin wing membranes, which allow light to pass through, creating an astonishing effect on starry nights.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Caviary is the postal deliverer between her Clan's main territory and the Desert March overseas; many dragons simply refer to her as the "Mail-miss". She is a very friendly and talkative creature, resulting in her often striking up a chat with dragons she's delivering for, only to suddenly and quickly have to excuse herself and fly off as she remembers that she has a job to do. She knows many dragons and is very understanding of the variety of lifestyles she sees, and while sociable, she knows when someone isn't in the mood to talk (nonetheless, some may be annoyed by her chattiness). She is known to be a very honest and trustworthy dragon, as exemplified in all the secrets she's trusted to deliver.

Her own den is in the Desert March, but she often stays on the mainland overnight in one of her parents' or friends' dens.
