Cheese Dragons are not actually alive. They are enchanted items of food that act almost identically to dragons. They have no need to eat, but they must “live” in humid environments or they will dry out and harden.

Colonel Queso has been a motherly influence on Corporal Queso ever since his birth and therefore considers herself to be female. The Colonel had a rather chaotic youth. She arrived as an egg on the eve of her intended caretaker's week-long journey. Her intended caretaker was able to monitor her for her first two days, but after that, she was on her own. Once she had grown inside her egg enough that her brain was developed and could process conscious thought, she managed to roll herself over next to an unknown sleeping dragon. She was extremely lucky that the unknown dragon did not eat her. To this day, she does not know which of her fellow dragons she ended up next to. Its unintentional help was just what she needed to be able to hatch. By that time, her original intended caretaker had returned and was able to protect her. When an egg arrived that was identical to her own, she took it upon herself to protect the helpless creature and to make sure it hatched happy and healthy.
