Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Luna was stolen as an egg, and it is rumored that her parents turned their backs on purpose, allowing a thieving human to grab it. She completely relies on her humans for basic needs like food and has the intellect of a toddler despite being six. They've taught her not to chew on the canvas-roof or leave her toys in the fire pit, and those two took a lot of patience. Her humans like her, but they don't know what to do for her when she's grown.
