Dorsal Dragons are so named because they have large fins along their backs that can be raised and lowered at will. They use these fins to regulate body temperature; they raise them to cool off when they become overheated. The bright colors on the fins double as a means of attracting mates.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

He is named after the Japanese Thunder God Raiden, since he too is powerful and strong. He is a very complex dragon, he is one of the best hunters in the colony, providing plenty of meat for the colony. He is also very gentle and loving, and enjoys reading books when he can, although it is difficult for him to turn the pages.  As with many of the other dragons in the colony, he was raised by Kentaro and Kiyomi, and it was Kentaro that taught him how to hunt. He is fiercely loyal, and will fight for his friends and family. He briefly courted Nyoko, until they both realized it just wasn't meant to be. He was lonely and really hoping to find a mate soon. Then he met Aika and fell in love. He was cautious at first since he was afraid that the same thing that happened between him and Nyoko would happen with Aika. But she stayed by his side and proved that their love is real. They became mates, and have been living a love story ever since.
