Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Dauncey wants to be a businessman when he's grown, so he can have a nice big treasure hoard. What business he doesn't know. Whatever's popular, probably, and the good or service should not be adversely affected by water. Every day, Dauncey visits the shore or cliffside with his parents, he sees one or two merchants either making transactions or just passing through, and they have shiny, shiny money! Once his mama and daddy convinced him it's morally better (and likely easier) to work for the money than steal it and stoke the owners' wrath, he's made his life goal to do some kind of lucrative business.
