Spitfires are a desert breed of dragon. Their dull brown bodies contrast with their brilliant turquoise markings, and they only blaze brighter when these dragons fight. Spitfires are notorious for their territorial natures, and the wing-edges of most are ripped and tattered before their first year is out. Spitfires are also noteworthy for their brilliant blue fire, which is used not for hunting or fighting, but rather for making glass caves from the sand, in which the dragons can soak up the sun.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Cairo mimics his brother, Kalahari, in personality. Both are quiet, reserved, solitary dragons that prefer to wander abroad, only returning to their family once in a while. The big difference between the two is that, while Kalahari excells at hunting and bringing his family food, Cairo uses his time alone to contemplate deep thought and study the world. Cairo is quite the intelligent beast. In fact, he's the smartest in his family and isn't afraid to sport that, speaking in highly sophisticated Draconic and reciting his critical thoughts to the utter, utter confusion of everyone around him. Cairo takes some manner of arrogant pride in this. He definitely likes feeling superior to others mentally, mostly because he can't really physically. Cairo was born quite weak. He doesn't possess strong muscles, magic, or even fire. He has been easily out-competed for affection and food by his Spitfire and even non-Spitfire siblings. So, he has embraced his niche and survives through his smarts.
