Sunset Dragons are closely related to sunrise dragons. However, their behaviors differ greatly. Sunset Dragons generally live alone or in small packs. They are more active in the evening, hunting and performing all of their daily tasks as the sun sets.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Once upon a time, Oberst had a normal life: she led a force of dragons and took pride in her ability to keep order and take care of her group. One spring day, a strange occurrence turned her into a sunrise dragon, an ugly mint-colored sunrise dragon, no offense meant to the mint group members. In fact, everyone had become green and pink—though they remained the same breeds—and all turned to Oberst for help. She had no idea how to handle the problem. After hours of investigation and feeling sleepy in the evening, she declared she'd fix everything; she just needed time alone to study. She retreated to her quarters to have a breakdown instead. When Oberst emerged the next night, to her surprise, everyone was back to normal. They all thought she broke the curse and praised her diligence and magical skill. The incident is now a distant memory in the minds of most, though people have noticed that their commander has been uneasy and doubtful of herself since then. They don't know why.
