Seasonal Dragons take on the characteristics of the season during which they are born. Thus, eggs that are laid in spring match the pink flowers and green buds of spring, and those that are laid in the summer grow to depict the bright green of the forest trees and the yellow of the sun. Eggs laid in autumn display the bright colors of leaves falling from trees, and those that are laid during winter take on the appearance of the icy snow.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Gelum spends most of his time on mountaintops, watching the clouds go by. He'll chat eagerly with any dragon that comes near one of his perches, but is much more interested in weather than company. When an interesting cold front comes through, he'll leave the caves for days to weeks at a time, chasing the winter wind. He'll follow other weather systems, but a cold wind from the north is his favorite—he sees it as his kin, two expressions of the same seasonal forces. He views the Flight as his home, but it's a home made for coming from and going back to when he's gone far enough.

The Flight was once worried he would encounter trouble on his treks and chose to send a guard with him. It was then that he grew to love his guard-turned-mate, Antimone Anastasios. He dotes on the sometimes unwilling dragoness when he is around, but he appreciates that she's too independent to try to hold him back from his wanderings. There's nothing that could, not even love.
