When Water Dragons mature, they lose the ability to survive on land, entering the water permanently. They are adept swimmers and eat whatever fish are in the lake they live in. They tend to inhabit the same lake for their entire lives, although a few live in the ocean and swim all over the world.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Henrietta Longwhisker sometimes feels alone as the only Water Dragon in the group. She can never visit the nest because she can't go onto land, and the hatchlings she once played with can't swim in the rough tides she now enjoys. Just when she was at her loneliest, Dancer Skywing came for a visit. She was so happy he made the effort to be near to her, since they were best friends growing up. Dancer Skywing started swooping and hanging around more and more in the recent months, and now she had a friend again. Suddenly, and quite unexpectedly, he confessed an undying love for her that was as far reaching as the ocean she swam in. Unsure how she felt, Henrietta Longwhisker noncommittally agreed to date him, on the condition that whatever happened, they should still be friends.
