Sunstone Dragons are named after the orb on their tails, which resembles the gem of the same name. Their social structure resembles a lion pride, with one dominant male and several females banded together with their young. They prefer arid climates where they can blend in and dig for minerals and gemstones that they not only collect, but eat. The more gems they consume, the larger their tail stone grows. They are an aggressive breed; it is not uncommon to see two males battling for mates and territory.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Trager had a dysfunctional childhood. He was always stirring up trouble and stealing. Unruly and on no one's side but his own. Well, that's not entirely true. He had a partner in crime: a human girl named Iyna. Iyna was an orphan as well and technically their friendship was illegal by the laws of Nebbia, the clan Trager belonged to. Not that he cared.

But as Iyna grew she became lonely, longing for someone to love her. Trager didn't understand why his company wasn't enough. When Iyna met Caslin she quickly found herself head over heels. In Trager's eyes Iyna abandoned him and after the two had a horrible fight about Caslin, he stormed off, his petty revenge. Iyna chased after him to apologize and hopefully make him understand. But she was attacked by a group of Creors. Trager found her barely alive outside his cave. With her last breath, she made him promise to take care of Caslin.

He kept his promise and in fact, after losing her, developed a strange kinship with Caslin, ironically.
