Sunstone Dragons are named after the orb on their tails, which resembles the gem of the same name. Their social structure resembles a lion pride, with one dominant male and several females banded together with their young. They prefer arid climates where they can blend in and dig for minerals and gemstones that they not only collect, but eat. The more gems they consume, the larger their tail stone grows. They are an aggressive breed; it is not uncommon to see two males battling for mates and territory.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Rlushu, as most dragons that can't pronounce his obscenely long name call him, has a horrible immune system. He always catches a new cold almost immediately after recovering from the last one. Also, he's allergic to over 80 different plants, animals, and fungi, although only one of his allergies is serious enough to do more than just make him a little miserable. His allergy to cat's hair is extremely serious, giving him hives and completely sealing off his throat when he makes even the slightest bit of contact with feline fur.

As such, Rlushu cannot get through a single conversation without sneezing or coughing and possesses a very nasally voice. No one has ever heard his voice without a congested, raspy twang to it. His name is a joking play on this; he used to be called Arilos but whenever he introduced himself it came out as RRRRRLLLLLLUUUUSHHUUUUUUUU. Eventually the others just reverted to calling him that permanently to avoid confusion and have a laugh or two at his expense.
