Almerald Dragons are an unusual species. They have gem-like protrusions along their spine that brighten and darken depending on their mood. In addition, their body temperature grows warmer during periods of excitement, and cooler during darker moods such as anger or depression; as such, it is fairly easy to read an Almerald’s emotions. Their mood can change quickly at times, going from calm to angry in a matter of seconds. If their anger becomes bad enough they can become a frightening opponent. Adults are not normally high in energy, so they hunt infrequently and prefer to lazily consume large quantities of fruits and nuts.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Alfonsino is a swimming enthusiast and avid about all things pecan, and his hair has been many colors lately except gray. He moved from Pena to Charlie 3 because he heard about its fancy water system, and once he checked the place out, he took a liking to the stream that runs through it, too. He resides in one of the stream-side units, and his roommate is a frilly wyrm who sort of acts like she owns the building, but that's fine because she's gentle and doesn't really rub that "fact" in anyone's faces. She also likes pecans and thinks Alfonsino's hair is very interesting. For a lark, she sometimes changes the color while he's not paying attention. In the evening, around sunclipse, Alfonsino goes for a swim in the stream. He's a clumsy swimmer and has poor night vision, but no one has ever harassed him since many dragons believe his color-shifting hair means that he's more magical than he lets on or is a sign that he has a more volatile disposition than the average Almerald.
