Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Varajasen was named for the Finnish word for "alternate". This haughty Dragon knows she is different, and revels in it. She has an extremely high opinion of herself, and it is not without warrant. Varajasen is extremely powerful, with a huge wingspan, razor sharp teeth, and a cunning, calculating mind. She is an expert hunter, able to take out even the largest prey with a single aerial attack. She inhabits a huge cave all by herself, and anyone who gets to close is subject to her whims. If she's in a good mood, trespassers may escape with nothing but a harsh warning. Catch her on a bad day though... She's not a "bad" Dragon, per se, but she definitely follows her own agenda, an agenda that no one is privy to but herself.
