Ice Dragons are fierce predators who hunt using their extremely cold breath. The breath of an ice dragon can freeze its prey solid in seconds. The body of an ice dragon is so cold that icicles will form along its skin no matter the outside temperature.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

When Ubara was very, very young, there was a great fight in the mountain cave she and her family lived within. Fearing for her safety her father, Eruko convinced her mother, Odette, that their daughter must be sent away. He knew exactly where to send her, too—to the home of their former friend, Derek. Odette was worried, however; Derek was furious at her for choosing Eruko over him. But her mate eventually convinced her that their daughter would be safe, and Ubara was sent to a small coven of Storm Dragons high up in the hills, almost close enough to touch the skies without their wings.

Ubara was excited when she first arrived in the Storm Dragons' cave: things were so different from her home. She was allowed more freedom, able to speak her mind, and she didn't have to worry about being in trouble. However, when she did get into trouble—which wasn't often, she swore!—her best friend, Derek, was always there to bail her out. It was then that she swore she would love Derek always.
