Holiday dragons are a very mysterious breed. They are only seen during winter, and even then it is hard to catch a glimpse of one. They are responsible for the general cheer that spreads during the holidays. In essence, they are the “Spirits of Winter.”

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Noni was never as strong as other dragons, with limited endurance, and after months of hanging aimlessly around the cave she found her calling as a messenger dragon. Not only did this profession allow her to travel far and wide, experiencing new cultures and places, but it also gave her peace and quiet from her mate, Nilix. While she may love Nilix, his obsession slightly worries her, as it seems she is his sole purpose in life, and although she attempts to reciprocate that she can never find herself talking from her heart, merely her brain inventing what he wants to hear. While part of her wishes she could love him just as much, she worries if the excess of love would prove damaging to both of them. Every night she lies there guilty, wondering if she is the right person for him, and whether she deserves his infatuation. Just a mere exchange with him can leave her feeling uncomfortable, as she is unwilling to break the pedestal he has placed her on, for inside she secretly likes it.
