Holiday dragons are a very mysterious breed. They are only seen during winter, and even then it is hard to catch a glimpse of one. They are responsible for the general cheer that spreads during the holidays. In essence, they are the “Spirits of Winter.”

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. Ring is usually a quiet and placid dragon, but she gets excited about cooking pasta. She can make about 30 dishes, but she spends more care on the dough. It usually consists of wheat flour and water, and maybe a chicken egg if she's able to trade, though rarely, the flour is substituted with something else for a different texture. To make the pasta varieties, Ring feeds the dough into a box while turning a handle, and it comes through the other side as a sheet, which is then pushed through a toothy part for more ornate shapes. Observers are surprised that this amazing device is not her favorite kitchen tool; rather, the honor goes to one of her colanders. It's a big, shiny bowl colored with festive swirls, received many Christmases ago. She keeps it in the top cubbyhole in the kitchen, only allowing its use during the holidays, never any other time of year. It's her most treasured possession. As she counts the days to Christmas, she never misses a chance to use her advent colander.
