Waterhorse Dragons received their name due to their horse-like physique and endearing behavior. They are capable of surviving out of water, and when on land their skin secretes a gelatinous goo to retain moisture. However, their large paddle feet are better suited for swimming, and waterhorse dragons tend to move very awkwardly when on land. Waterhorses are very friendly dragons and enjoy playing with humans.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

He retains a lot of his mother, Lake's, habits and attitudes. Shenandoah (named after a river), or Shenan, is something of a nature boy. He loves and honors all things natural and seeks to protect his home lake from danger. He tends to act pretentious and self-important, to the point where he can be extremely annoying. His pompous attitude is not on purpose though, he truly believes his actions and beliefs do well for the environment. His mother is more understanding of him than most, though even she admits he can go overboard. Shenan is a talented swimmer. Of course, being a Waterhorse, he moves a heck of a lot better in the water than on land. He is very attached to his Amalthean relatives. Though they tend to get as irritated with his shpiels and over dramatization as everyone else, they are at least willing to indulge and be friendly with him. He is particularly attached to his cousin, Grail, who actually sees him as a close friend and consistently hangs out with him.
