Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It skitters around in the shadows, seemingly repelled by light.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Anointment and his parents and everyone else associated with them live and work in a labor ca- a... a cool place under the watchful eyes of their stunning and strong leader, a cavern lurker whose name is so precious that lowly dragons like Anointment are not allowed to think it (or learn what it is). They instead call her Everyone's Boss. His grandfather committed a heinous crime when he suggested that their leader's subjects be allowed to use magic sometimes. Now every dragon three or fewer generations away from Anointment's grandfather get to live at the cool place and be closely watched by their leader's agent-... guardians. Anointment works hard every day with minimal breaks, his young age not impeding him from being treated as an adult. He has become very skilled in finding different ways to prepare the savory cabbage, bones, and peanuts that their great lurking leader generously donates from her bounty.
