Striped Dragons come in a dazzling array of colors complemented by an intricate pattern of stripes. These bright colors and patterns help attract their favorite food, insects. Because their prey is so tiny, striped dragons must spend a large portion of their day eating. The color of the offspring is usually determined by the dragon’s mate.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Bontine grew up alongside two other hatchlings in a cave on the shore of the Lake of Elgar, hidden within the Mountains of Elgar and protected and cared for by the human dragon guardian, Flight. Like her older brother, the Black Striped Hytoro, Bontine is rather shy and very kind-hearted. She loves to hang out with her sister and littermate, Byltior, though not so much her sister Malachite of the Gems, who scorns Bontine and takes advantage of her soft personality. Even as an adult, Bontine looks up to Flight, who always talks kindly to her. Bontine is a dragon of few words, and she often depends on her sister, Byltior to do the talking for her. For this reason, when Byltior moved away from the Mountains of Elgar, Bontine followed her, and the two always enjoy each other's company. When Flight hangs out with some of the older dragons she's raised, and Byltior and Bontine come up in conversation, it's always said how Bontine is the only one who can chide Byltior when she gets too rough.
