Waterhorse Dragons received their name due to their horse-like physique and endearing behavior. They are capable of surviving out of water, and when on land their skin secretes a gelatinous goo to retain moisture. However, their large paddle feet are better suited for swimming, and waterhorse dragons tend to move very awkwardly when on land. Waterhorses are very friendly dragons and enjoy playing with humans.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

The romance between Tip Toe and Paddle is very strong. They are both Waterhorse dragons, but from warring clans. They met at a swamp at the border from both clans territory's, both were enjoying a quiet swim just relaxing away from the stresses clan life brings. They bumped into each other while surfacing for air and now visit that spot everyday to see each other. But Tip Toe had come of age, and her father, the large and very fierce clan leader, had plans for her to become the mate of another. She delayed as best she could, but the day came. Just before getting towed away, Paddle burst into the room, ready to fight the first attacker. Tip Toe struggled and kicked her way away from her mate-to-be until she stood next to him. United again, they quickly ran away to the place where they had first met. They live there to this day, happy together and sometimes venturing out to visit relatives.
