Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It’s extremely curious and seems to enjoy exploring the area around it.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Yusa is very mellow, content to sit on the sidelines and daydream rather than join the other hatchlings' games. Her sister Yuukihyakubai is far more energetic, and insists on playmates, so Yusa is never in danger of being lonely and frequently finds herself roped into playing, anyway. That's fine, too. But her favorite times are the evenings when she curls up beside her father and he tells stories of things he'd seen in his younger years.
