Fire Gem Dragons are a colorful, flamboyant breed often found in hot climates, particularly around active volcanoes. Their broad tails store the flames they breathe, which are colored by the heavy amount of minerals in the water they drink. These dragons come in a variety of colors, and will collect shiny trinkets and stones that match their own coloration. Despite their hoarding tendencies, though, Fire Gem dragons are social and will often congregate in groups and show off their collections while fawning over the stones their friends and rivals have gathered, occasionally arranging trades.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Upon a first meeting, Sheen appears to be a very hostile, nasty dragon. He's highly defensive of his personal space, is rude to most anyone he sees, and has no issues taking advantage of others. He has only adopted this personality, however, because of his family. His father, Agate, is extremely strict and judgemental, while his mother, Lucina, is absolutely vicious. Sheen has the mentality to appear strong at all times, lest he be pushed around by others. This is especially the case with his sister, Rhoda. Ever since they were young, she has sadistically bullied and tortured him. Even now, the two have a tumultuous relationship and fight constantly. The only dragon Sheen will let his hair down around is his mate, Goldenrod. With her, Sheen feels more at ease and like he doesn't need to act so tough. Of course, even around her, his rough exterior shows prominently, but what little light he has in him seems to appear as well. She brings out the best in him, even if that best isn't much.
