Gold dragons are the ones most often killed by humans, who consider their scales to be extremely valuable. These golden scales grant them a high level of protection, similar to armor, and they use this to their advantage in battle.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Carmela Nuria, daughter of Jin and Oriata Nuria, was the first of their children. As a result of the treatment her husband received, Oriata decided not to have any eggs until after the Treasure Craze had ended. Thus, Carmela was born long after her father and mother met. When the egg of Carmela was laid, her mother gave the egg to Ember to raise in fear of her husband's foolish antics. Despite this, Carmela, though she was born in the time of the Halos, was not given the title of "Halo", as Jin refused to let her receive it. He said that his daughter would be no one's savior, and that she was too beautiful (after all, she looked just like him) to have her name ruined by such an "absurd word", as he described it. Ember agreed to this, but would quietly whisper to the little hatchling that she was an honorary halo. Carmela grew very wise, and unlike her father, was sought by other dragons for advice. She became widely known for her words, and even today lives with her parents in Elgar.
