Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It’s very light and enjoys bouncing all around.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Once, at a fancy party, the hosts, whose names aren't important, suggested finding a ballroom dancer. One of their servants, Carver, out of misplaced enthusiasm, rushed out before anyone could elaborate. Three hours later, he procured a balloon dragon egg, having misheard the statement as "balloon dander". He was immediately ejected, since everyone feared what could become of an egg thief and didn't want to risk dragons coming after them. Carver left town and was on the move for a year, caring for the egg himself, and when it hatched, he named the baby dragon "Balloon Dander" out of whimsy. The hatchling is too young to use telepathy, never mind process human language, so it's unknown what the little balloon thinks of Carver and his mishap.
