Cassare Dragons are known for their magic-deadening abilities. Though not a conscious ability, a large field surrounds the dragon through which magic is passively nullified. This field is strongest near the dragon itself, and falls off with distance. The absence of magic often makes other creatures avoid them, though some will have the opposite reaction and seek refuge instead. It has also caused them to be hunted, as though the field is severely weakened once dead, their bones and scales retain some of the effect. Possessing such an item is considered a necessity by those who expect to face hostile magic.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Zifs does not believe in magic. All the other dragons insist that it is real, but he has yet to see a spell cast nor a 'magical' artifact function. It annoys him to no end that the rest of the universe seems to believe in magic and is certain the story about cassares nullifying magic is merely a massive conspiracy to propagate tomfoolery. What angers him the most is the other cassares who understand magic is a thing and try to explain. Zifs's antimagic is more potent than that of most of his kind, which combined with his slight agoraphobia could be why he hasn't even seen large spells at a distance. Suffice to say he is not popular among the magi and mageia-xenowyrms.

Though he has no current mate, Zifs once had a brief relationship with the destruction avatar Qooti. After she laid his egg she left, destroying his ability to love. Though he raised Zyq, it was out of desperation rather than caring. A child was just about the last thing Zifs wanted.
