Sunrise Dragons are closely related to sunset dragons. However, their behaviors differ greatly. Sunrise Dragons prefer to live in large groups and enjoy basking in the early morning sun. They are usually most active in the morning, and go to sleep in the early evening.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

First Officer can eat and safely pass most things he can fit in his mouth and chew, even hair and bark. There are also many unpalatable substances that he finds reasonably tasty, such as soap, talc, mold, and lettuce, and he is willing to raid humans' garbage piles any time before sunset to nose through their refuse for an easy snack. One of the few items he can't eat are the tubs of blue dye that textile-producing humans keep. He may be allergic to the plant leaves from which it's derived, so he's careful to avoid ingesting anything colored with the same hue. The last time First Officer had a sip of the stuff, he felt he had dyed a little inside.
