Deep Sea Dragons, as their name suggests, spend most of their time in the darkest depths of the sea. They have a bioluminescent dorsal spine that serves to attract prey and communicate with their own kind. As with many deep sea animals, they generally eat whatever they can manage to bait. They rarely leave the ocean floor, surfacing only during breeding season. When they do choose to travel to the shallower depths, they avoid bright lights and will only come up far away from shore.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Mariner Barbossa was raised by his mother on the northern coast of Verdant, where the mountains meet the sea, and a young Flash met the dark and dangerous Ultra Mariner. Determined that her oldest child would not be a libertine like his ferocious father, she balanced her world on the edge of the depths, becoming a seafarer for part of each year so she could provide the guidance she knew young Barbossa needed.  With a legendary (and unavailable) father, Barbossa follows his mother along the Western Coast, until she gives in to brumation each winter. Near her winter home, in the depths of Volcano Cove, he met pretty Lapis Ocean Sky as she explored the Verdant coastline.  Having escaped the clutches of his roving father, Lapis was wary of Barbossa, but the care of his mother proved him to be a true gentleman, and she realized she had no reason to fear him.  They travel now between her lake and the ocean, as they raise their strong, beautiful and gallant children.
