Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

It is obvious to any onlooker that Belle did not inherit her mother's calm temperament nor her graceful appearance. While her upbringing has prevented Belle from becoming spoiled or rude, it is clear that there is a bratty side to her personality, as she will quickly sulk if things do not go her way, or if she receives criticism from someone. Some dragons would say it is a blessing that she is Celyn's child, as otherwise she no doubt would have been an emotional burden on the clans, and as it is one must be careful not to get on her bad side. While Belle has learned better than to judge her fellow dragons by their appearance, or even initial impressions, she will refuses to even be in the same room with those that she doesn't like, it is clear to see the frustration and anger in her face, mixed with jealously, if one of the hated achieves success or praise in anyway. Highly competitive, Belle loathes to lose, becoming increasingly violent as she attempts to force herself to victory.
