Striped Dragons come in a dazzling array of colors complemented by an intricate pattern of stripes. These bright colors and patterns help attract their favorite food, insects. Because their prey is so tiny, striped dragons must spend a large portion of their day eating. The color of the offspring is usually determined by the dragon’s mate.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Verre De Herbe is the second daughter in a very eccentric family of stripes. Her parents collect diamonds, he other sister collects rubies, and Herbe, herself, collects emeralds. It is rumored that she can smell them, as she is often seen digging them up, like a pig digs up truffles.

Her name, in French, means "glass leaves", which is her name for her emeralds. Instead of leaving them in chunks, she will use her claws to shape them into tiny, leaf-like shards. Her parents give diamonds as gifts. Her sister gives rubies as a warning. Herbe gives emeralds as a reward, or to show appreciation for something.

The hatchlings are often told that if they behave, Herbe would allow them to visit the cave where she hides her emeralds. In fact, only one dragon has ever been in that cave: Krickele, a frozen geode hatchling. Only he, Herbe, and the Mistress know the location of the cave.
