Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Dubh suffers the same fate as his brother Paganach: to be a fiendish Black dragon among peaceful Guardians and proud Silvers. Yet at the same time this clan is his only close family, as his maternal family is on ill terms with any Mac Shoogle, including Dubh. Although he cares deeply for his parents and siblings, his nature is restless, like his mother's, and explosive and ferocious like no other among his kin. Due to this he has fled his old home. Now he roams about the mountainous north of Scotland, having no territory of his own and paying little heed to those of others. More often than not he will fight the dragons he finds upon his path, sometimes winning and sometimes losing, making his back covered with scars he owes to them.
