Coastal Waverunners spend most of their time skimming the waves along the coast, snatching up their prey from the shallow waters. They have developed markings along the leading edges of their body that help disguise them as breaking waves. When they are not hunting, they enjoy playing among sand-dunes and shallow tide-pools. These dragons live in small but noisy rookeries. Some stories say Waverunners can fly for days on end without landing.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

The first male Coastal Waverunner in the family and by far the most rambunctious. Teal loves hanging out with his more energetic siblings and uncle, Elara. He loves adventure and getting into all sorts of mayhem, at least when he's with a group. Otherwise, he's a bit more tepid, not willing to do something crazy unless it's for an audience. Teal is an attention hog. Anytime he thinks he's being ignored, he flies into a fury of random actions and yelling that are sure to alert someone in his family. He is especially like this around his more quiet grandparents, who, despite their calmer demeanor, Teal really idolizes and wants to be loved by. He can be very immature (much like his eldest sibling, Alizee, whom he does take much influence from) and is a sore loser, but Teal never means to harm anyone or do wrong by his actions. He just wants to be seen by those he respects and can't stand the thought of being forgotten, which he sees as likely due to his massive and complex family unit.
