Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Though I Make Coins is continuously attempting to replace the "old-fashioned" and "inefficient" bartering system with currency, she has always failed in her efforts. The reason why, of course, is that there isn't enough currency to go around, for I Make Coins makes her coins from her beautiful, shining scales. Though it is agony to her, she plucks off ten of them every day and takes them to her friend, an ember dragon named Winter Ember, to heat them up. Then, using a stone chisel, she pounds her once unique scales into uniform, circular coins. She marks each of them based on their quality, from one to twenty, and with the help of Winter Ember, she stores it in a secret chest hidden in his cave. Someday, she hopes to build up this reserve to a colossal amount and distribute them amongst all the dragons of the land to introduce "civilized trading", though for now her next goal is to fill up the chest and move on to the next one.
