It was previously believed that purple dragons were exclusively female, but this is not the case. Recent environmental shifts have revealed the existence of both genders of this breed. Female behavior is well known; they are primarily herbivores but will eat meat during mating season. On the other hand, very little is known about the behavior and habits of male purple dragons.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. Petra travels a lot and is well-known around the Uniform Hills as one of the first minister's diplomats. He plans trips carefully and always takes time to view the sights wherever he goes. At first glance, Petra looks like the no-nonsense type, but it soon becomes clear that it's a front he puts up for strangers and dragons not from the Hills, since he believes a severe and haughty attitude should be employed so his voice at the proverbial table can be heard. With many, many older siblings, he was used to the feeling of not being given enough attention and lacking clout. While at home, though, Petra is known for his exuberance, love of guessing games, and talent for plate spinning. Even the first minister has invited him to do a routine during her family's dinner party, and he remembers the event fondly.
