Seasonal Dragons take on the characteristics of the season during which they are born. Thus, eggs that are laid in spring match the pink flowers and green buds of spring, and those that are laid in the summer grow to depict the bright green of the forest trees and the yellow of the sun. Eggs laid in autumn display the bright colors of leaves falling from trees, and those that are laid during winter take on the appearance of the icy snow.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Canache is the fifth dragon of the fourth clutch, coming later than the others. He is the son of Tehlura and Dorceus, and has an icy blue body with darker blue extremities. He has inherited some of Tehlura's energetic ways. He is bright and cheerful, often taking great pleasure in running about and daydreaming about long forgotten dragon civilizations in the nearby forests. However, Canache, unlike his mother, would rather fly than walk about and spends most of his time aloft. He has also inherited some of the more boring aspects of his father, as Canache is much more calm than his mother and will sit down to engage in long conversations. It is unknown whether he likes to sit around more than running about or vice versa. Canache simply loves the winter season and enjoys building snow castles and dragons in the snow. He often wishes that these creatures would become real, but he does have a lot of friends in the cave, and doesn't mind that his wish doesn't come true.
