Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

About to Approach cannot fly yet, and his bent left thigh ensures he'll never be very quick on the ground. He gets scared being anywhere without supervision from his parents, tutor, or elder cousins, and he's far behind in his magic, science, and history education compared to other dragons his age. Nevertheless, he's determined to be a Somebody in the future and tries his best at everything, hoping the adults and peers trying to teach him don't think their efforts are in vain. He wants to be useful and help others in need, though he's aware he's the opposite right now.
