Serrati Wyverns are a fierce breed of dragon typically found in volcanic areas or in desert scrubland. With their keen vision, these fearsome predators can pick out well-camouflauged prey from the slightest movement. They are named for the double rows of serrated teeth that line their beaks, which allow these wyverns to maintain an unbreakable grip on prey while they tear into their target with deadly hooked claws. Though these dragons are combative with nearly everything, they are surprisingly well-mannered when raising their offspring in communal nests. Males, however, tend to be chased off as soon as eggs are laid.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Early every evening, Aisenai leaves the caves to scout for predators in the nearby biomes. When she returns, she informs the nocturnal hatchlings about which areas they should avoid when they venture outside the clan caves. As she usually sleeps during the daytime, Aisenai spends her nights hunting small animals, constantly trying to improve her vision and hunting skills. Because she constantly feels insecure when not in the company of others, she envies her self-reliant and fiercely independent older brother, Keosu.
