And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Waxing of the Light helps her family of festive dragons make sweets in December and accompanies her sister Kaliedas to deliver batches. Since she doesn't know her parents or any blood relatives, she is the honorary sister or cousin to all of the kids her age, including her delivery partner, whom she looks up to. The family bake sugar plums and fruitcake, treats made almost entirely out of luxury goods: butter, spices, sugar, nuts, and candied fruit. These ingredients are extremely difficult to acquire at the same time without the aid of magic, years of training, or lots of money, so Waxing loudly and proudly presents the yummy treats to humans who cannot afford them. During the rest of the year, the family grow, gather, and store all of the ingredients. While Kaliedas is always dour at this time, Waxing can't help but think merry thoughts about the coming December.
