Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It’s very festively colored.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Donner always dreaded growing her wings. As she watched the other dragons gliding around the cave, she shuddered to think of the day where she might have to do that too, and her nights were filled with dreams of flying, then spiralling downwards into the ground after her wings failed her, plummeting her to the doom she so dreaded. And so, when the option came up for her to remain in hatchling form permanently, she leaped at the chance. Never having to trust anything more than her four feet and the ground beneath her was so much safer than trusting the power of wings to prevent her falling to an untimely death. Donner cannot see how anyone would want to grow wings, with the risks they take, and has little regard for the ungainly appendages, which she sees as cumbersome. Donner sees the mint dragons as the most superior species, having adapted to not having those horrible wings, and to live life perfectly happy without them.
