Harvest Dragons are a large, flightless breed most often found in heavily forested mountains. Normally shy, these omnivorous dragons keep to themselves in remote regions, but in the fall they descend from their high territory to search for food—and lots of it. During the autumn months, harvest dragons will eat whatever they can find, from large and small animals to nuts and fruit. In the winter they retreat into large caves and hibernate until spring, living off the fat they have built up.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Clax Vi Krehl has always been the fine, gentlemanly dragon that his parents had hoped for, and he lorded over his self-centered older sister. Clax Vi Krehl's courtly manner and well-groomed scales earned him a fine reputation that far outshone his sister's tarnishing of their family name. Clax Vi Krehl tried his best to be perfect, but eventually he slipped up-big time. While trying to hunt for bats by night, one of his favorite food-related hobbies, he found a fatally-wounded vampire dragon laying under a bush on a mountainside. The wounded vampire begged Clax Vi Krehl to end its life, but Clax Vi Krehl couldn't do it. Instead, he brought the wounded creature home and tried to care for it, which ended in disaster. Other dragons had seen him bring the vampire home, and they attacked with a vengeance. Clax Vi Krehl was forced out and went to hide in the mountains, where he met his future life-mate, who loved him in spite of what he had done.
