Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Evan grew up adoring his older brother. There was a time in his life when Evan would have done anything to please his brother. But then his brother started arguing with their parents over magic and power. Evan didn't understand why his brother would not accept that their parents would teach them both when they were ready and not before. Evan is always content to take the knowledge his parents offer when they offer it. After all, they must know more than he does since they are older and wiser. He just wishes his brother wasn't so terrifying now.
