Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Cerok is a powerful warrior and fiercely devoted to whomever he serves. While Cerok himself is not a leader, he has worked closely with many different dragons and learned much from them. Cerok frequently finds himself working for dragons whose views he does not share but to whom he is personally loyal. Because he has found himself in this situation so many times, Cerok has become adept at separating his work from his personal feelings, a trait that has served him well when he finds himself on the opposite side of a war from the dragon he loves.
