Sunbeam Drakes are the diurnal counterparts to Moonglow Drakes, their eggs having been laid during the daylight hours. They are around the size of a small dog, and while docile, can be flighty and easily startled. Most can be found high in treetops enjoying the bright sunlight, tucking themselves away at the first sign of a storm or impending nightfall. Sunbeam Drakes enjoy flying in the light of the sun, and their treetop dances are beautiful, dazzling, and serene.

Though it may appear at first that dragons and drakes have much in common, the two are completely separate species. Drakes are smaller and less intelligent than their cousin species, though both dragons and drakes sit comfortably near the top of the food chain. They are always found bearing antlers and leathery wings. Drakes share many of the same habitats that dragons do, and typically hunt in packs.

The mascot of the Shusinton Shiners, Sunny parades outside with his masters before every match and joins the after-game party when the team wins. As the numeral in his name indicates, he's the fourth sunbeam drake playing mascot and the great-grandson of the very first Sunny. After three generations of ownership by humans, he is not only mellower than his wild kin but smarter as well, since his handlers liked to pick the brightest drakes to keep as mascot. While Sunny the Fourth has no understanding of the game's rules, he can sense if the Shiners have won or lost (and therefore whether he gets extra food post-game), and when they've lost, he looks for a player or staff member to jump on and and rub his face and tail against.
