Arcana Dragons are a rarely-encountered breed of dragon known for both their magical abilities, and their quirky, hardworking nature. These dragons have specialized organs for storing mana, and can produce varying effects from these reserves simply through instinct. However, they are also very intelligent dragons, and when raised around mages, or others of their own kind, almost invariably become obsessed with the study of magic. Arcanae are diligent in their efforts to discover as many uses for magic as possible, and while they will openly treat others to the fruits of their labor—especially others who share their interests—they will also use their knowledge and abilities to trick any creature that thinks it can take advantage of them.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Vigorous Handwaving is one of the best magical healers in her mixed community, highly skilled and more than happy to help others. Still, a lot of people favor her peers when they need medical attention, or they try not to see a doctor at all. She conducts business in the Heal Hole, whose name alone makes others uncomfortable. The Heal Hole is decorated with body parts of many different creatures, including a Board of Eyes, a complete Kohraki skeleton, organs in jars or hanging from the ceiling, a diorama of carefully-arranged knobs and nubs, flight sac pillows, and a loveseat made of teeth. The entire room has a green tint, and there's always a draft even if the exit is sealed. Vigorous Handwaving spent more than a century collecting and constructing everything in the Heal Hole and says she's able to do better work when surrounded by beautiful art. While treating a patient, she either talks about the pieces or tells stories about all the scary diseases and injuries she's encountered.
